It was a bright sunny Saturday morning. All the neighborhood children were playing soccer at the homeowners’ picnic. There was a new kid on the block; a quiet fellow by name of Mustafa. I saw him sitting with him mother the whole time. He never came to play with the other children. I automatically termed him a ‘mama’s boy’. So I invited him to play with us. At first he refused. Ultimately him mother convinced to come and play with us and that we were really harmless and that it would be really good for him. What nobody else knew was that I did not invite him to play because I wanted to play with him. I only wanted to make fun of him, and for that I needed him to leave his mother’s lap. Kids can be surprisingly cruel these days. Sometime the kids pushing another can be an honest mistake. Fights may break out too. However if they do it is important that the two kids make up and forget the whole issue lest they keep a grudge. According to time magazine, rough behavior crosses the line when it is deliberately aggressive, persistent and intended to scare or hurt another person. Bullying can involve hitting, taunting, name calling, rumor spreading, social exclusion, extortion and insulting emails. According to Dr. Coleman from news 14 Carolina, the only way to eliminate the effects of bullying would be to catch it at the early age. We all hope to have children someday. According to Time magazine, there are three main step to take if you know you child is being bullied. Listen to your child. Do not blame him or her. Empathize with the child. Do not under any circumstances ignore the bully. And never tell you child to retaliate because violence is surely not the answer. Report the bully to the teacher. Do not go to the bully’s parents as most of the time, they will deny that there is even a problem.
